Brushing your teeth… It's so simple! If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve been doing it for two minutes twice a day, since you were a teeny tiny toddler. Did you know that we each spend roughly 1,440 minutes brushing our teeth, every year. That’s the equivalent of one whole day of looking at your own, lovely face while you brush your teeth. It’s super important that we do it right! We all know the importance of brushing our teeth but maybe something we haven’t discussed as much is: bristle strength.
So, while you’re staring back at that beautiful reflection in the mirror, you might find yourself asking “Which bristle is best for me?”
Most dentists will recommend using a soft bristle to give you the best chance at looking after your gums and teeth. At Big Little Brush we understand that each smile is beautifully different and that personal preference plays a big part in bristle selection, so our brushes come in soft and medium. It’s important to consider what your teeth need and in some cases a soft bristle is going to be your best bet, for example:
- Do I have braces or sensitive gums?
- Am I a vigorous brusher?
- Are these brushes for a small human, under the age of 8?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, a soft bristle is probably best for you (you might even like to check out our kids brushes).
Another question we’re often asked is about brushes for babies, when’s the best time to start brushing? The general guidance is to start using a soft, baby specific brush as soon as their first tooth pops through (our kids brushes should be perfect for crew over the age of 2). Until then, it’s a good idea to wipe your bubba’s gums twice a day with a fresh, soft, damp cloth! This helps to keep the baby’s mouth clean, and also gets them used to a twice-daily cleaning routine!
So, which bristle bristle will have you grinning from ear to ear? Soft, medium or maybe a kids brush?
